Introduction:
The popliteal fossa is a diamond shaped depression lying behind the knee joint
Boundaries:
•Superolaterally: biceps femoris
•Superomedially: semitendinous & semimembranosus
•Inferolaterally: Lateral head of gastrocnemius & plantaris
•inferomedially: medial head of gastrocnemius
Roof:
•Formed by deep or popliteal fascia
•Superficial fascia over roof contains(Small Saphenous vein,posterior cutaneous nerve of thigh,medial cutaneous nerve of thigh,peroneal nerve)
Floor:
•Popliteal surface of femur
•The capsule of knee joint
•Oblique popliteal ligament
•Popliteal fascia
Contents:
•Popliteal artery & branches
•Popliteal vein & branches
•Tibial nerve & branches
•Common peronial Nerve
•Posterior cutaneous nerve of thigh
•Popliteal lymb nodes
•Fat
