Femoral triangle anatomy pdf Boundaries, Contents & Clinical anatomy

Femoral Triangle Notes:

Introduction:

Femoral triangle is a triangular depression on the front of upper one 3rd of thigh immediately below Inguinal ligament.

Femoral triangle anatomy pdf

Boundaries:

Laterally: medial border of sartorius

Medially: medial border of adductor longus

Base: inguinal ligament.

Apex: [directed downwards] point where medial & lateral boundaries cross

Roof:

•Skin

•Superficial frascia

•Deep fascia including cribriform fascia

Floor:

•Medially adductor longus & pectineus •Laterally psoas major & iliacus

Contents:

1,Femoral artery & its branches:

3 superficial & 3 deep branches

Superficial:

•Superficialexternal pudendal

•Superficial circumflex iliac

•Superficial epigastric

Deep:

•Profunda femorts

•deep external pudendal •Muscular branches

2,Femoral vein & it's tributaries:

•Vein accompanies femoral artery

•Vein medial to artery at base of triangle.

•Vein is posteromedial to artery at apex of triangle •Vein receives- great sephanous vein. circumflex vein corresponding to femoral Artery

3,Femoral sheath:

Encloses upper 4 cm of femoral vessels.

4,Nerves:

Femoral nerve- lies lateral to femoral artery.outside femoral sheath.

Nerve to pectineus- arises from femoral nerve just above inguinal ligament.

Femoral branch of gento femoral nerve- occupies lateral compartment of femoral sheath along with femoral artery.

Lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh-Crosser lateral angle of triangle Runs on lateral side of thigh & divides into blanches. anterior & posterior branches

Deep inguinal lymph nodes-Lies deep to the deep fascia. These lies medial to upper part of femoral vein & receive lymph from superficial inguinal lymph nodes from glans penis or clitoris & deep lymphatics of lower limb.

Clinical anatomy:

1.Femoral hernia:

•Femoral canal is an area of potential weakness. in the abdominal wall through which abdominal contents may bulge Out forming femoral hernia.

•It is more common in females because femoral canal is wider.

2,Femoral artery can be compressed at midinquinal point against head of femur or against the superior ramus of pubis to control bleeding from distal part of limb in thigh or leg.
