Hypercholesterolemia Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

What is Hypercholesterolemia?

Hypercholesterolemia is a condition in which the body suffers from elevated cholesterol levels.

Cholesterol is a fatty substance produced by the liver that plays a major role in development of cell membranes, some hormones, and vitamin D.

What is Hypercholesterolemia

It's a wax-like consistency means that it does not dissolve in water and cannot move through the body on its own.

High cholesterol has a negative connotation attached to it. it is considered to be a sign of poor heart health and can prove to be harmful overall.

Causes of Hypercholesterolemia:

There are two types of cholesterol High density lipoproteins (HDL) and Low density lipoproteins (LDL). among them, it is the LDL which is recognized as the "bad" cholesterol.

Hypokolesterolemia occurs when the amount of LDL rises in the blood this also means that the level of HDL cholesterol in the blood is too low.

The two types exist together, with HDL being responsible for leading LDL cholesterol to the liver for elimination.

The main cause for this rise in LDL is a diet that is packed with food items rich in fats. however, pre-existing heart conditions and genetics can also promote the development of LDL over HDL.

Symptoms of Hypokolesterolemia:

The tricky aspect of hypercholesterolemia is that it does not result in any apparent symptoms. instead, the signs of high cholesterol usually show up in the form of an emergency event, such as a stroke or a heart attack.

This doesn't occur until the cholesterol makes its way into the bloodstream and begins to deposit there as plaque, which Narrows the blood vessels.

Hypercholesterolemia symptoms

A blood test is the only way to find out if you have high cholesterol. doctors typically recommend a test if:

1. You are overweight

2. You are a heavy smoker

3. You have high blood pressure.

Furthermore, high cholesterol can cause:

•Heart attack

•Stroke

•Coronary artery disease (CAD)

•Peripheral arterial disease.

Diagnosis of Hypokolesterolemia:

High cholesterol is directed through a blood test called a lipid panel

The normal level of lipids in the blood or as follows:

•Less than 100mg/dl of LDL cholesterol

•At least 40 mg/dl of HDL cholesterol or higher

•Less than 150 mg/dl of triglycerides

A combined cholesterol level of between 200 and 239 mg/dl is considered borderline High, while anything above 240 is considered high.

When it comes to LDL anything above 160 mg/dl is considered high.

Treatment of Hypokolesterolemia:

You can reduce your cholesterol levels by changing your diet. you need to:

1. Increase soluble fiber and omega-3 fatty acid intake

2. Reduce saturated fat intake

3. Eliminate trans fats from the blood.
