Acute coronary syndrome: Types, Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment

What is Acute coronary syndrome?

Acute coronary syndrome refers to a group of conditions that result in low and restricted blood flow to the heart. This is usually due to blockage in blood vessels surrounding the heart.

The blockage may be sudden or occurred just for an instant. however, it can also last for a long period, occurring frequently during that time.

Acute coronary syndrome treatment

The blockage is due to fatty deposits on the walls of the coronary arteries, which are responsible for bringing oxygen to the heart muscles.

Heart muscles need a steady supply of oxygen and blood clots, or clogged arteries can severely disrupt blood flow to them, resulting in acute coronary syndrome.

Types of Acute coronary syndrome:

Acute coronary syndrome usually refers to three heart conditions:

•Non-St Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction or heart attack (NSTEMI).

•ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)

•Unstable angina.

The type of acute coronary syndrome you might be facing is determined using an ECG and the specific symptoms.

The lack of blood supply to the heart is known as ischemia and can prove to be fatal as the muscles may die if blood flow is not restored to them.

Causes of Acute coronary syndrome:

Acute coronary syndrome develops due to increased fat in blood vessels which results in them becoming narrower and clogged. Blood flow to the heart can be restricted by blood clots as well.

Risk factors associated with this problem include:

•Smoking
